Emerging Pictures continues to expand its alternative content roster following a deal to become the exclusive North American theatrical distributor of CielEcran’s live ballet programming.
Emerging’s ballet roster includes performances from Moscow by the Bolshoi Ballet and from Paris by the Paris Opera Ballet. The season will begin on December 19 with a live broadcast from Moscow of the Bolshoi’s performance of Tchaikovski’s The Nutcracker.
Emerging’s expanded Ballet In Cinema series joins its established successful Opera In Cinema programme, now in its fourth season.
Managing partners Ira Deutchman and Barry Rebo negotiated the deal with CielEcran director general Marc Welinski. CielEcran is a subsidiary of Gaumont-Pathe.
“It has always been our goal at Emerging to offer the world’s greatest cultural brands in cinemas,” Deutchman said. “With the addition of the Bolshoi and the Paris Opera Ballet, we have taken another step in achieving that goal. These spectacular productions should have a broad appeal to audiences of all ages and throughout North America.”
“I am very excited at the idea of bringing the best two European ballet companies live to the American public,” Welinski said. “It will be a unique opportunity to attend beautiful performances, which will be magnificently shot in High Definition and 5.1 Sound.”

I have seen your live HD transmission of Ballet in the Cinema last year 2011 in the Carmike Theater in Snellville, Ga. My friends and I enjoy Ballet in the Cinema very much, and hope that you can also bring it in to the Regal Theaters in Atlanta in 2012, because the Regal Theaters are more convenient for us to visit. The 2012 Ballets in HD that we would like to see are Sun Mar 11-LeCorsaire/Bolshoi, Thurs Mar 22 Romeo & Juliet/Royal, or its encore on Mar 28; Sun Apr 29-The Bright Stream/Bolshoi; Wed May 16-LaFille Mal Gardee/Royal; Sun JUNE 24-Raymonda/Bolshoi. Thanks, Jack Shenk
