Announcing the Opera & Ballet in Cinema Winter-Spring 2013 Season!

Emerging Pictures is very excited to announce its upcoming Winter-Spring (January – May) 2013 Opera and Ballet in Cinema season. With an opera or ballet presented every weekend between January 1 and the end of May, it’s our most comprehensive season to date.

Opera in Cinema offers a full complement of new and encore classics, from December, 2012′s La Scala opening night of “Lohengrin,” the Royal Opera House’s “La Boheme” and Angela Gheorghiu’s brilliant performance in the Royal’s “Tosca” to “Il Trovatore” from Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu and the new production of “Eugene Onegin” from the Royal Opera House.

For balletomanes, the new Ballet in Cinema season is a feast of movement and music, both classic and contemporary. The Royal Ballet kicks off the season with the encore of “The Sleeping Beauty,” starring Lauren Cuthbertson and Sergei Polunin, and in May the new “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” The Bolshoi celebrates the centenary of “The Rite of Spring” in a new commissioned production choreographed by Wayne McGregor, and, later, Yuri Grigorovich’s new scenic version of “La Bayadere.” And ballet from La Scala tantalizes with a glittering “Notre-Dame de Paris,” with two of the dance world’s brightest international stars, Natalia Osipova and Roberto Bolle.

For contemporary ballet fans Winter-Spring 2013 delivers the extraordinary work of the Nederlands Dans Theater: “An Evening with Sol Leon and Paul Lightfoot,” the company’s resident choreographers, and “An Evening with Crystal Pite.” In late March, Ballet in Cinema presents a first: “Ballet’s Greatest Hits – the Youth America Grand Prix Gala,” a special gala performance featuring some of ballet’s greatest established stars and new rising talents.

It’s a terrific season for opera-lovers and balletomanes alike. Check the links below for more information and start marking your calendar now.
