
Shaul Schwartz
Shaul
Schwarz was born in Israel and moved to New York in1999 as a freelance
photographer. Today he is still based in New York and is represented by
Getty Images.
Schwarz’s work has appeared in major international
publications such as Life, Time, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report,
Focus, Paris Match, The New York Times, Le Monde II, L'Espresso
Magazine, and Stern, among others. He has covered the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict extensively in the last eight years. His
photo essay “Transvestites in Juchitan,” “ Nature or Nurture” has
appeared in magazines worldwide. Shaul has covered stories in the United
States, Senegal, France, Jordan, Mexico, Israel, Haiti and Afghanistan.
Schwarz started
developing interest in filmmaking in the last three years. He has
completed a few short reports that were aired on Israel’s channel 2.
“The Block” is his first feature film, which was completed in June 2006.
Schwarz has just won the highly acclaimed Arthus Bertrand Visa d'Or News
award announced at this year's Visa Pour L'Image international
photojournalism festival in Perpignan, France for still photography from
the Gaza pullout that is show in his film.
