Thursday, June 24, 2016 Hollywood, CA The producers of the acclaimed documentary LANDFILL HARMONIC today announced a coordinated release across all platforms and media involving several companies to bring this multiple prize winning festival darling to the public.

Film Collaborative, Emerging Pictures, Tugg, Inc., Vimeo, FilmRise and HBO Latino will each play a key role in the overall release as follows: Film Collaborative and Emerging Pictures will handle the theatrical distribution in the United States and Canada; Tugg, Inc is overseeing educational distribution; Vimeo will take on the Video on Demand exhibition; FilmRise will release the DVD/BluRay; and HBO Latino will premiere the television broadcast.

Orly Ravid, attorney at MSK and founder of Film Collaborative organized these exceptional distribution partners for this release on behalf of the filmmakers. “We are confident that this captivating and emotionally powerful story will continue to capture the hearts of audiences across all platforms and media especially given the film’s remarkable success at film festivals worldwide.”

LANDFILL HARMONIC is the acclaimed SXSW and AFI FEST audience award winning film following the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical youth group of kids that live next to one of South America’s largest landfills. This unlikely orchestra plays music from instruments made entirely out of garbage from the landfill. When their amazing story goes viral, the orchestra is catapulted into the global spotlight. With the guidance of their music director Favio Chavez, they must navigate this new world of arenas, stadiums, concert halls and sold out performances. However, when a natural disaster devastates their community, the orchestra provides a major source of hope for the town.

“Our goal is to show that culture is a basic human need and that music can truly change lives,” says music director Chavez. “Even when we live in the most unfavorable conditions, we must never stop dreaming. And this orchestra and these kids are a perfect example of that.”

“We are very excited to work with this team of amazing distributors on all platforms,” states Alejandra Amarilla, Founder and Executive Producer. “Every time audiences experience this film and this story, the outpouring of love and support is immense. These distribution experts will be able to get the film out to as many people as possible, and help the film continue to inspire others.”

LANDFILL HARMONIC is a testament to the transformative power of music and the resilience of the human spirit. It has played over 140 film festivals around the world and has won over 30 awards and prizes. In the orchestra’s home country of Paraguay, LANDFILL HARMONIC will also enjoy a wide theatrical release throughout the country.

“The film will have a special outdoor screening for the people of Cateura just prior to the Paraguay release in August,” says Juliana Penaranda-Loftus, co-director and producer of the film. “It is extremely important for us as filmmakers to share this amazing film with the town, so they can see first hand how much their story has inspired us and the world. This screening will be very special and moving.”

The Cateura screening will mark the beginning of the Paraguay theatrical release that begins August 18, followed by the United States release starting in New York on September 9, at the Cinema Village and then September 23 in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Monica Film Center and other Laemmle venues. After, the film will be released in theaters in 25 – 45 markets across the nation and Canada.

As a special event in the US, The Recycled Orchestra of Cateura will perform in New York City in coordination with the September theatrical premiere. LANDFILL HARMONIC will be available on VOD on Vimeo and DVD/BluRay after the theatrical release, and HBO will then broadcast it.
