On Each SideA new suspension bridge will connect the towns of Victoria and Rosario, long separated by a wide river. But the project brings engineers, explosions, and flurry of activity that disrupts lives on both sides of the river: an old man who lives in the construction zone decides to sell the house where he has lived for fifty years, a German engineer rents a room in a house owned by two sisters, stirring them into a frenzy of flirting and rearranging the household to please him. However, the project also becomes a shared experience for the towns, a subtle and almost-poetic transformation of identities and ideas as residents long-separated move toward each other, figuratively and literally, and documenting it all is a photographer who, like the residents on each side of the river, is hardly prepared for the transformation that begins when the bridge is complete.
