| Vanaja is a precocious, fearless and
lower caste 15-year-old girl, who faces unimaginable adversity as she
comes of age working as a servant in 1950’s rural India. All she wants
is to dance, but in a place where social barriers are built stronger
than fort walls, the chasm may be too large to surmount. A rare and
stunning look at the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, VANAJA was
Domalpalli’s MFA thesis film project for the Graduate Film Division of
Columbia University, and has gone on to win awards at 14 major film
festivals around the world. |
