Announces Cinema Partnership for
“Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD” series of
opera broadcasts in movie theaters
Cultural Centers, Art
Houses to present alongside Multiplexes
New York
City, December 21 – Emerging Pictures
announced today that it will serve as the
“alternate venue” partner in the US for the
upcoming “Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD”
series of opera performances to be broadcast
live, in high-definition, into movie
theaters. Six presentations from the
esteemed concert hall will be broadcast
beginning on December 30th with "The Magic
Flute," directed by noted film & stage
director Julie Taymor.
Emerging
Pictures’ digitally equipped art houses &
cultural centers are perfect compliments for
the Met’s larger collaboration with cinema
partners around the world to bring the Met’s
historic broadcasts into selected
multiplexes throughout the US, Canada, the
UK and Europe.
Emerging
venues participating include The Mary Riepma
Ross Media Arts Center in Lincoln, Nebraska;
The Tropic Cinema in Key West, Fl., The LOFT
Cinema in Tucson, AZ and The Capawock
Theatre on Martha’s Vineyard, Mass. Network
currently provides 20 screens in 19 US
markets with digital content.
“Emerging’s
mission is to use its digital cinema network
to bring the highest possible quality
entertainment to communities throughout the
US. The opportunity to work with the Met on
these historic high definition presentations
was one we were excited about as soon as
they were announced. It’s the perfect
compliment to the first run specialty films,
syndicated festivals & curated film series
Emerging is known for. And, it extends our
ongoing PBS relationship as the Met’s HD
operas will also be seen on public
television in the future” Barry Rebo said.
Rebo co-founded Emerging with Ira Deutchman
and Giovanni Cozzi in 2004. eBay founder &
social entrepreneur Jeff Skoll’s is also an
investor.
Emerging’s
presentations will be in HD format and
offered on a delayed basis within days of
the Saturday matinee “live” projections
being offered at multiplexes nationwide.
Participating theaters will have the option
of offering both matinees and evening
screenings which was felt to be more in
keeping with cultural center presentations. |
